Rules of Pickleball
Tennis Unlimited supports pickleball for clubs that also play tennis and padel. This is a practical summary for scoring on court — not a substitute for the full USA Pickleball rulebook.
Court and kitchen
Pickleball is played on a smaller hard court with a lower net. The non-volley zone (the “kitchen”) sits on both sides of the net.
You may not volley the ball while standing in the kitchen. You may stand there once the ball has bounced.
Points, games, and sets
On Tennis Unlimited, clubs score pickleball matches with the same Love–15–30–40 games and sets used for tennis and padel. Many multi-sport clubs use this format for mixed sessions.
Official rally scoring to 11 (win by two) is a different format and may follow later. Until then, clubs choose best-of and optional no-ad scoring the same way as padel.
Serving
The serve is underarm, below the waist, diagonally into the opposite court. The ball must bounce before you hit the serve.
After the serve, the two-bounce rule applies: the ball must bounce once on each side before either team may volley.
Doubles first
Pickleball is often doubles. Partners rotate serve under club rules; receiving positions are set at the start of the set.
Tennis Unlimited also supports pickleball singles when a club or Quick Play chooses that format.
No-ad and shorter matches
Many club formats use no-ad or a golden point at deuce to keep matches shorter.
Tennis Unlimited can score classic deuce and no-ad — pick the option that fits your club.
Fair play
Players call balls on their side unless an official is present. Replay disputed points when players cannot agree.
Respect opponents, partners, and the kitchen rule. Club events may add their own house rules.
